WOBURN — Massachusetts Republican Party Chairman Jim Lyons issued the following statement in response to the Massachusetts Senate’s passing of S.2800:
“We all see how violent crime is surging not only in Boston but in cities across the country, yet here the Democrats’ response was to create ways to make it harder for our brave members in law enforcement to do their jobs,” Lyons said. “The radical Democrats are bowing to the same left-wing mob that is wreaking havoc in American cities right now.
“The radical Democrats’ pre-dawn stunt was driven not by an honest need for reform, but by a thirst to take advantage of a political moment. This was all about politics, and most of all, this was about attacking and discrediting Massachusetts police officers, who put their lives on the line every day to protect us.”
The legislation had been held up for several days after Sutton Republican state Sen. Ryan Fattman used several procedural moves to draw attention to the bill’s lack of public hearings.
