MassGOP Demands Answers and Accountability for Release of Accused Child Rapist

June 28, 2024

Boston, MA– The Massachusetts Republican Party is outraged and demands immediate answers and accountability following the release of Cory Alvarez, a 26-year-old Haitian national accused of raping a disabled 15-year-old girl at an immigrant shelter in Rockland. Despite the serious nature of the charges and an ICE detainer, Alvarez was released on a mere $500 bail. He is now missing, and ICE agents are desperately attempting to locate him.

“The failure of the courts to honor the ICE detainer and the decision to release this dangerous individual into the community is a gross miscarriage of justice,” said MassGOP Chair Amy Carnevale. “This tragedy is a direct result of the dangerous policies promoted by Governor Maura Healey and her administration, which prioritize the rights of illegal immigrants over the safety of our citizens. A young girl has suffered unimaginable trauma, and yet the individual responsible is allowed to roam free. We demand to know why the ICE detainer was ignored and why a rapist was set free on such a low bail. Governor Healey must answer for her administration’s failures.”

“The safety of our communities and the protection of our children must be the top priority,” said Carnevale. “We call on the Healey-Driscoll administration to take immediate action to rectify this situation and to ensure that no other family has to endure such a horrific experience. The Healey-Driscoll administration’s leniency and disregard for public safety is unacceptable.”

The MassGOP will continue to advocate for policies that prioritize the safety and well-being of Massachusetts residents and will hold those in power accountable for their actions.
