MassGOP Calls for Transparency: Governor Healey’s Refusal to Disclose Out-of-State Travel
March 19, 2024
Governor Healey today doubled down on her refusal to disclose travel out of state even upon her return in a continued break with well-established precedent. Governor Healey has stated, “My personal life is my personal life.”
Massachusetts Republican Chair Amy Carnevale responded, “The refusal by the Healey-Driscoll Administration to disclose information about private trips raises serious concerns about transparency, government accountability and continuity in times of emergency. Massachusetts continues to rank near the bottom of all states in the nation when measuring transparency. The Healey-Driscoll Administration sets the example. Massachustts can and should do much better at being accountable to its citizens.”
In a bit of irony, Governor Healey herself stated when speaking about the need to disclose of travel of a Supreme Court Justice, “it seems time after time he’s violating the most basic rules and norms and ethical obligations or at least the ethical obligations that would naturally extend to the rest of us in public office.”
Carnevale further commented, “The Governor should adhere to these same ‘basic rules and norms and ethical obligations’ that Massachusetts Governors have historically upheld, such as disclosing out-of-state activities and whereabouts. What’s perhaps the most troubling is the lack of transparency even upon the Governor’s return from trips.”
