Coordination or Chaos? MassGOP Chairwoman Challenges Healey-Driscoll Administration’s Leadership

April 23, 2024

Boston– In a condemnation of the Healey-Driscoll administration’s transportation policies, Massachusetts Republican Party Chairwoman, Amy Carnevale, has raised serious concerns about the direction the state’s transportation agenda is taking.

Recent remarks by Governor Healey regarding the Secretary of Transportation, Monica Tibbits-Nutt, have sparked confusion. Despite the Governor’s attempts to distance herself from Tibbits-Nutt’s statements, there has been no tangible change within the administration’s transportation task force.

Chairwoman Carnevale stated, “The Governor’s leading expert on transportation is her Secretary of Transportation, so if she’s leaving the recommendations of the task force to the ‘experts,’ like she recently stated, that is Tibbits-Nutt. The Secretary is leading this task force. The Governor stated that the Transportation’s Secretary’s remarks were ‘not how we do things’ and ‘not how we operate.’ Despite those remarks, nothing has changed within the task force. Therefore, all the Governor’s statements on Tibbits-Nutt are inconsistent.”

The recent misstep has shed light on the true intentions of the Healey-Driscoll administration. Carnevale continued, “Massachusetts residents now know that at the very least, the Secretary of Transportation, who is a high ranking member in the Healey-Driscoll administration, aims to go after residents’ wallets to pursue her political agenda. That’s what we can expect out of MassDOT. Healey may be saying she’s focused on affordability and competitiveness, but that’s clearly not the focus of her leading cabinet members.”

The MassGOP is calling for transparency and accountability within the Healey-Driscoll administration. “Does the left hand know what the right hand is doing? Or did Secretary Tibbits-Nutt expose what’s being discussed behind closed doors in the Healey-Driscoll administration?” questioned Carnevale.
