June 14, 2024
Boston, MA– Yesterday, the State Senate unanimously passed H.4744 An Act to prevent abuse and exploitation, criminalizing revenge porn. Republican State Committeeman Alex Hagerty, has passionately shared his deeply personal experience, including testifying before the Joint Committee on Judiciary to drive lawmakers to criminalize revenge porn. Governor Baker and Lt. Governor Polito during their tenure pushed hard for revenge porn laws to protect victims of the heinous crime. Republican State Representative Alyson Sullivan-Almeida (R-7th Plymouth) sat on the conference committee that settled the legislative differences between the House and the Senate bills. Rep. Sullivan-Almeida has been championing for survivor protections for years and spoke passionately in favor of H.4744 on Wednesday in the House chamber.
Republican State Committeeman Alex Hagerty, who has fiercely advocated for the bill to drive lawmakers to criminalize revenge porn, commented on the Senate’s passage of the bill, stating: “Survivors of revenge porn like myself, have spent years grieving the painful crime committed against us, praying for healing, sharing our stories, advocating to leaders who would fight for justice, and striving to prevent one more person from suffering the horror we endured. Massachusetts finally passing this law will deliver justice survivors and victims deserve.”
