Statement from Republican Chairwoman Amy Carnevale on Rollins Resignation

Today, Massachusetts Republican State Chairwoman Amy Carnevale reacted to the news regarding the resignation for U. S. Attorney Rachael Rollins. U.S. Attorney Rollins is resigning following an ethics investigation by the Justice Department for possible violations of the Hatch Act. This relates to the use of her personal cell phone to conduct Justice department business and a trip to California that was paid for by an outside group.

“No one is above the law. U.S. Attorneys must conduct themselves in according to the highest possible standards. Rollins has failed at this most basic mission. It is appropriate that Rollins resign in wake of the ethics investigation. We need a justice system that instills pride and confidence in the judicial system” said Carnevale.

“The dangerous pro-crime and anti-police stands embraced by Collins made her the wrong choice from the beginning for the position of prosecuting crimes. The Rollins appointment showed to the American people that President Joe Biden cared more about siding with criminals over helping victims.”

“It is now time for this President to choose a new U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts who will personally follow the law and prosecute criminals to the fullest extent. That may seem obvious for this appointment, but Biden failed with the Rollins appointment,” said Carnevale. “It is worth noting that the former Republican U.S. Attorney appointed by President Trump was a real leader in prosecuting crimes. Andrew Lelling opened up the varsity blues scandal and knew how to prosecute crime while following the law himself,” added Carnevale.
