The MassGOP calls for the Inclusion of Charter Schools in Mayor Wu’s Free Museum Initiative

The past two Sundays commenced an initiative providing complimentary passes to Boston public school families for various museums across the city. Notably, this initiative excludes Boston charter schools. The MassGOP urges the Wu Administration to broaden the scope of the initiative to include children who attend Boston’s charter schools.

MassGOP Chairwoman Amy Carnevale called for including public charter schools in the initiative stating, “If Mayor Wu continues with the museum initiative, the Mayor should not exclude charter school students. Just as families in non-charter school systems face financial struggles limiting access to these museums, so do many charter school families. It’s worth noting that charter schools are public schools. The decision to exclude charter school kids seems politically motivated.”

“I fail to see any justification to exclude children based on the type of public school they attend. It’s unfair to the kids enrolled in charter schools. This situation appears to be another example of Mayor Wu not putting the interests of children over that of a political agenda,” Carnevale concluded.
