Job Losses Out of Control, Massachusetts
Loses Over 7,300 Jobs in FY 2026 Under Healey
Boston, MA – New data reveals that Massachusetts has lost more than 7,300 jobs from companies with over 50 employees, over the past fiscal year due to widespread layoffs across the Commonwealth. Almost 500 jobs have been lost in June 2026 alone, with additional major cuts expected into the summer months.
These numbers come in compliance with the federal WARN Act, whereas employers must notify the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce development about a layoff or plant closing. Employers with 50 or more employees must submit a WARN notice. These WARN notices must be submitted at least 60 days prior to the layoff or closing.
According to state records, these losses span sectors including manufacturing, healthcare, retail, education, and logistics, affecting regions from Boston to Western Massachusetts.
“Governor Maura Healey’s failed economic policies have driven businesses to cut jobs and leave the state, inflicting serious harm on working families and local communities,” said Amy Carnevale, Chairwoman of the Massachusetts Republican Party.
She continued, “Her tax-and-spend agenda, burdensome regulations, and hostility to job creators have made our state uncompetitive. Families are struggling with higher costs and fewer opportunities while businesses flee to states with better leadership. It is time for real change and accountability.”
The layoffs come as Massachusetts continues to face challenges with outmigration, high energy costs, and a lack of support for small businesses. Under Governor Healey, the state’s business climate has deteriorated, reflected in Boston’s office spaces rising to 25% vacant, from only 5% in 2019.
She concluded, “We need a new Governor, who will focus on job opportunities for everyone.”
