Mass GOP Demands Governor Healey End Her Silence on Rampant Benefits Fraud and Fully Cooperate with Federal Investigators

 

BOSTON, MA – The Massachusetts Republican Party today called on Democrat Governor Maura Healey to immediately stop ignoring the explosion of government benefits fraud in the Commonwealth and to direct her administration to fully cooperate with the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

 

“This level of fraud is completely out of control, and Governor Healey’s continued silence is unacceptable,” said Amy Carnevale, Chairwoman of the Massachusetts Republican Party.

 

Federal authorities announced Thursday the arrest and charging of 15 individuals accused of stealing $1.4 million in SNAP, MassHealth, disability, and unemployment benefits. This latest action is part of an ongoing crackdown that has already charged more than 60 defendants in connection with $63 million in alleged fraud since December. Yet despite this alarming scale of abuse, Governor Healey’s administration has refused to provide critical state benefits data to federal prosecutors, even suing in court to block access to records paid for by federal taxpayers.

 

She continued, “Hardworking Massachusetts families are footing the bill for tens of millions of dollars stolen through identity theft, fake IDs, and illegal schemes while the Governor refuses to lift a finger to help stop it. Enough is enough. She must end her obstructionism and immediately provide full access to state data so federal investigators can root out every instance of waste, fraud, and abuse.”

 

U.S. Attorney Leah Foley and Assistant Attorney General Colin McDonald have publicly highlighted the governor’s office refusal to assist, noting that state cooperation would streamline investigations and uncover far more wrongdoing.

 

Instead, Massachusetts data remains under a protective order, forcing federal authorities to rely on slower, less effective methods while fraud continues unchecked.

 

The MassGOP demands that Governor Healey immediately:

• Direct all relevant state agencies to provide full, unrestricted access to benefits data for federal fraud investigations.
• Cease all legal efforts to block federal access to taxpayer-funded records.
• Publicly commit to working with the U.S. Attorney’s Office to protect Massachusetts taxpayers from further abuse.

“Every dollar stolen through these schemes is taken directly from the paychecks of Massachusetts workers and families,” Carnevale continued. “Governor Healey’s refusal to cooperate is a betrayal of the public trust. Taxpayers deserve transparency and accountability, not stonewalling and excuses. The Massachusetts Republican Party will continue fighting for full cooperation and aggressive action until every instance of fraud is exposed and stopped.”

 

The Massachusetts Republican Party urges all residents concerned about government waste and fraud to demand action from Governor Healey and their elected representatives.
