Healey Administration Dangerously Dismissing
Massachusetts Outmigration Crisis
Boston, MA – Despite Massachusetts losing a net 33,340 residents to other states between July 2024 and July 2025, Governor Maura Healey has remained almost completely silent, choosing instead to send surrogates to downplay the growing crisis.
In recent weeks, Healey has relied on Economic Development Secretary Eric Paley to haplessly defend the administration’s lack of effort in multiple media appearances.
“Hopefully Governor Healey will finally address this serious crisis herself, and not just pass it off to others” said Massachusetts Republican Party Chair Amy Carnevale.
“Secretary Paley’s defense falls short by focusing only on raw population numbers. What matters is who is leaving: Massachusetts is disproportionately losing young adults (24-44), higher earners, and skilled workers, the exact talent that powers our innovation economy. Businesses are following the same pattern and relocating out of state,” Carnevale added.
“The Healey administration’s refusal to confront these failures is accelerating talent and revenue loss, threatening Massachusetts’ long-term competitiveness,” said Carnevale.
She concluded, “Massachusetts cannot afford four more years of this neglect. The only way to hold her accountable is to elect a new Governor in November.”
