Parents Speak Out About Extreme Material Taught in Burlington Public Schools

BOSTON, MA — The Massachusetts Republican Party has released the second episode of “Back to Normal,” an online show and podcast dedicated to covering news stories from the perspective of Republicans.
In his latest episode, host Jeff Semon speaks with two parents from the Burlington school district who filed complaints with the U.S. Department of Education after teachers and administrators presented sexually-explicit questionnaires to their children — despite signing forms opting them out.
The controversial survey, given to children as young as 11 years old, asked students for their opinions and preferences about sexual intercourse, gender identify, sexting, alcohol abuse, and more.
Adrianne Simeone, a mother with children in the Burlington school system, spoke about the opacity in emails sent to parents offering the option to opt their children out.
“When it was signing up to get a yearbook, [the emails] were like ‘urgent response required,'” she said. “But here’s this sexually explicit survey that’s totally vague, and so many people missed it.”
A post-survey investigation found the school had no guardrails for protecting children whose parents opted them out, which is how the survey was ultimately sent to every child regardless of their parents’ wishes.
