MassGOP Chairwoman Condemns Unprofessional Rhetoric of Boston City Councilor

March 11, 2024

The MassGOP unequivocally condemns the unprofessional rhetoric used by City Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson towards her fellow councilors, in which she declared, “If you want smoke, I’ll give you smoke.” These remarks were made during an outburst following the criticism leveled by two long-standing city councilors regarding the limited scope of their committee responsibilities.

In response to Anderson’s intimidating rhetoric, MassGOP Chairwoman Amy Carnevale expressed concern for how these comments reflect on the city of Boston stating, “It is entirely inappropriate for an elected official to engage in angry tirades against fellow city councilors who have raised legitimate concerns about their committee assignments. Elected officials are expected to maintain a high level of professionalism as they serve as exemplars for political discourse. City Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson should issue an apology for her outbursts and commit to upholding professionalism within the city council.”
